This dance teacher went viral for doing cartwheels in pink thigh-high boots to tackle bullying!

Dremon Cooper is a 19-year-old from Washington, DC. He’s a dance teacher for an LGBT nonprofit called Casa Ruby.

image

Cooper told that he’s a goofy person who loves to laugh and make skits and, more recently, created a new superhero character. Cooper says the name of the character is Super Bitch, but fans have started to call the superhero “Him Possible.” The character was created to show that bullying and violence are not OK.

I’m convince those boots have super powers ♥️❤️

Have we ever discussed the fact that 2001 - 2012 Disney channel’s shows all had strong female leads, with the exception of Zack and Cody but they had a black man in charge, a smart poor white blonde girl and a dumb rich Asian so still beautifully diverse.

Disney was 100% female empowerment and showed diversity. Who did they employ to create the shit they have today?

ashkenazi-autie

Of the shows with girls as leads, two of them were POC and their heritage was actively acknowledged throughout the show.
We have a Wizards of Waverly Place episode featuring a quincenera and we have That’s So Raven, which actually did a lot to talk about body image and addressed the issue of antiblack racism.

2srooky

Not to mention Zack and Cody had a working single mother (a divorcee at that!!) who was respected, strong, and amazing. Also a PoC bellhop who was a crucial role and in nearly every episode, and whose heritage was always known and respected.

That’s So Raven had a lovely and diverse cast of friends/family, tackled topics that every teenager faces, like stress from school and work, body positivity and racism that runs in our country, all while still having banter that was classic in Disney.

This also doesn’t even brush on the animated series that Disney had at this time, like Lilo and Stitch, The Proud Family, Kim Possible, and American Dragon Jake Long, which all had either strong female leads, PoC, or a mix of both.

What a pervert. What the FUCK does he not know how clothes work? What the hypothetical fuck is she wearing then if we can see all that?

It’s like how bath towels in comics miraculously wrap completely around breasts. Or how even when injured and dead on the ground women in comics have to be twisted into “sexy” poses. Or how women in comics walk like they’re in high heels even barefoot.

image

It’s the only way men know how to draw women, because to them female characters are only there to be sexy. They only think of “women” as exploitative costumes and camera angles, high heels and titillation. Sex objects to ogle, plot objects to further male heroes’ narratives and drama, not heroes to cheer for.

brithwyr

I’m sorry, I was labouring under the impression that this was the crowd that thought women should wear what they want..?

auntiewanda

And that applies to fictional women who are depicted by men how? You can’t apply agency in the plot to something metatextual when it comes to fictional characters.

brithwyr

Come on, let’s not pretend this is a male exclusive thing.

auntiewanda

We’re going to have this argument are we? Not to mention you’re deviating from the original point that attributing agency to fictional characters’ clothing is asinine.

What you have here are images of power, and do you really believe these characters are designed with titillating heterosexual women and bisexual and homosexual men in mind? Because I don’t think you do.

This is why the Hawkeye Initiative exists. Take common female poses in comics, put a man in the role, and see how “empowering” and “strong” it actually looks:

feminism-is-radical

He got the painting for fighting against ‘censorship.’ Note that they handed him a gross design of a female being objectified, because at the end of the day, that is all they really want, to be allowed to objectify women. They don’t care about censorship in general it is about their ability to sexualise and degrade women without consequence.

schnerp

You can see her butthole for chrissakes

pmastamonkmonk

I think the best imagery I’ve seen to explain the difference between what men think male objectification is vs what women actually want to see is the Hugh Jackman magazine covers.

image

Hugh Jackman on a men’s magazine. He’s shirtless and buff and angry. He’s imposing and aggressive. This is a male power fantasy, it’s what men want to be and aspire to - intense masculinity.

image

Hugh Jackman on a women’s magazine.  He looks like a dad. He looks like he’s going to bake me a quiche and sit and watch Game of Thrones with me. He looks like he gives really good hugs.

Men think women want big hulking naked men in loin cloths which is why they always quote He-Man as male objectification - without realizing that He Man is naked and buff in a loin cloth because MEN WANT HIM TO BE. More women would be happy to see him in a pink apron cutting vegetables and singing off-key to 70s rock.

Men want objects. Women want PEOPLE.

aglassroseneverfades

This is the first time I have EVER seen this false equivalence articulated so well. Thank you.

TIL that in 2012, Daniel Radcliffe was voted one of the top 10 “most talented, intelligent, funny, and gorgeous Jewish men in the world”, despite not being Jewish.

via reddit.com

if-i-am-not-for-me

The Wikipedia page linked to literally says his mother is Jewish, which makes Daniel Jewish by literally any definition. Fuck you.

chibi-blastoise

By that logic my mother is Christian because so was my grandmother; which means I too am Christian.

Religion isn’t genetic you know.

if-i-am-not-for-me

Judaism is an ethnoreligion, so, actually, in this case it is. Fuck off.

tikkunolamorgtfo

First of all, exactly what @if-i-am-not-for-me said: The Jewish people are an ethnoreligious group, which means a person can be ethnically Jewish without being religious.

Moreover, @chibi-blastoise, being totally ignorant of Jews and Judaism, obviously has no idea that one can actually be a practicing Jew and still be atheist or agnostic, and that there are, in fact, two branches of Judaism (Reconstructionist/Secular Humanist) devoted to practice through an atheist/agnostic lens. Unlike many other religions, Judaism does not require belief in a deity, and even beyond those two aforementioned branches, I even know several agnostic Jews who are Orthodox.

It’s likely that @chibi-blastoise is what we’d refer to as a Christian Atheist, somebody who has Christian heritage and actively participates in secular Christianity without acknowledging that it’s still connected to a religious movement, despite not personally observing it that way. For some reason, it never occurs to people like this that atheist Jews can also have secular versions of their own holidays. Instead, they expect atheist Jews to adopt secularised Christianity because they think their heritage can be devoid of religion in a way ours cannot, which is incredibly offensive and hegemonistic.

Also, just for the record:

image

“I’m an atheist, but I’m very proud of being Jewish.” Not “I’m an atheist, but I’m proud of having Jewish ancestors.” Daniel Radcliffe says he’s proud of being Jewish. Being. Because “atheist Jew” is not an oxymoron, but rather a perfectly common, normal thing in our culture.

Daniel Radcliffe is an explicitly self-identified Jewish atheist and anybody who can’t handle that can die mad about it.

geekandmisandry

Conversations about Daniel Radcliffe is what lead Jewish women online to educate me about the concept of an ethnoreligion… Looking back I learned a lot on those imdb message boards.

fetus-cakes

this post is actually teaching me a lot about Judaism, I really didn’t know one could be Jewish and non practicing like that

freshest-tittymilk

I know there are a lot of non-practicing Jews, but generally they all still abstain from certain things (like pork), tho not all of them… They may not practice but that still observe others and respect the religion– ironically, thanks to Orange is the New Black I learned quite a bit about Judaism, it’s such an interesting religion

supacutiepie

Jack Black is actually the same way, But i believe he converted back over again? He lived mostly Atheist, but as he wanted his children to grow up knowing and loving their background- he came back around and is now practicing jew, again. This might have forgotten some stuff but it’s the basic of it.

I’m concerned that Spiderverse is going to send a generation of future cosplayers the wrong message

namely that it’s possible to spray paint cloth a different color

PSA you cannot spray paint anything that will bend, it will all turn to flakes and fall off. That goes for rubber boots, leather boots, foam, pretty much anything that flexes. You gotta use fabric spray paint for fabric, leather paint for leather, etc.

fanartfunart

Honestly I think that was the only criticism I had of that movie upon finishing it.

obtuse-bird

also please don’t use spray paint on a fucking MASK that you are going to be breathing out of.

Hey so I just feel the need to add this. NEVER deep fry in a shallow pot. What happened here is this person put frozen fries in hot oil, and the hot oil will nearly double in size when you drop something cold in it. Then it overflows out of the pot and you have a grease fire. You should never have oil more than about a third of the way up the pot.

Seeing these boys in their modern uniforms and jackets and backpacks that say NIKE, participating in this ancient ritual, really just drives home what people mean when they say “I am not a costume.” The clothes here are not important. The energy and participation are important.
